We have had this unit almost 2 years, and are relatively satisfied with it, but recently, when the variable speed motor switches to the lower speed, it will occasionally make a subtle squeeking sound (only 2 or 3 squeaks), then you will hear fluid rushing through the larger copper line inside the closet. After this, everything continues to run fine. Any thoughts on what this could be, and what action should be taken?

Can't hear it from here. I would recommend you get an annual maintenance check done on the unit and have a tech listen to it. Small problems can get bigger and cost $$. Freon level needs checking etc.

Probably a good idea on the maintenance end - had it checked out about 1 year ago and all seemed to check out OK...the only problem is that I cannot produce the squeak at any time -- it only occurs very seldom... could a low freon level create this sound?

If it is a 2 stage unit (I'm not a Trane guy) it may be shifting to low stage and that squeak may be a freon flow sound/normal. Get it checked anyway.
