Call a reliable certified a/c technician out. In the past 5 1/2 years since buying our new home, both the builder and the power company's "Energy Conservation" technicians tried to fix the problem but were worthless. The 3rd party a/c company went up in the attic and saw that the wires were crossed and thereby, caused the furnace to kick on everytime the a/c turned on. It's no wonder our summer power bills were running us $400-$500 a month (pretty high even for our size home) !!!! Now we'll need to backtrack and see about the heating bill during the summer too. Sad to say, the builder tried to fix this 5 years ago but all they did was put more freon in to keep it cool until it ran out again. And that's why we thought everything was resolved.

I would never allow a person who is called "the builder" or "the power company's Energy Conservation technicians" to touch my a/c.

About the power company, we were trying to do a good thing by enrolling in Nevada Power company's Cool Share program where they switch out your thermostats for theirs so that they can raise your a/c by 4 degrees during peak hours. They sent some rinky-dink 3rd party in and made things worse, and neither the power company nor the 3rd party want to admit that they screwed our system up. Lesson learned, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So again, I agree with you, duke, not to let anyone touch our system, period. But if we weren't within our warranty period, we would have sought a third party a/c company to do the job in the first place.

Maybe it lost it's charge already. If freon has been added then you have a leak and it will continue until the leak is located and repaired. Just like a tire.

Probably dirty coils and or low charge. Could be other things too. You should call a pro.
