I have a 3.5 ton York Heat Pump that I recently paid a local licensed technician to install for me. It was new and in the box. In the attic I have a Trane heater/air handler. I had a Trane heat pump but after 10 years it gave up the ghost on me. It was installed and ran just fine until it got real hot. It seems to have a difficult time keeping up with the cooling at times and when this happens it will run until the outside unit stops. The blower in the house will continue to run and run. All I have to do is unplug the attic unit for 10 seconds and plug back in and then it runs fine again. If I expect too much of the unit (like cooling from 84 to 78 on a 98 degree day) it will always do this and I end up heading up to the attic to unplug the upstairs unit and plug back in. I had a different tech come take a look at it and he said that maybe the York and Trane were have a hard time communicating. So, will I have to continue this forever or does anyone have a suggestion of what I could do to alleviate the problem. Thanks in advance.

Kyle

You need a real hvac tech, One who uses gauges, meters, and temperature readings. Your system should cool to the setpoint on stat(reccomended above 68) reguardless of outdoor temp. If it doesn't then something is wrong and should be corrected soon before the new unit fails like the last one.
