I have a '92 Rudd Gas Pack - 3.5 ton. The heat exchanger rusted out (probably from a leaky humidifier system). The heat and A/C seem to work fine but you can clearly see the rusted out HE.
I'm planning on selling the house in the next year. I've been quoted only total replacment gas pack units and have been discouraged from replacing the Heat Exchanger.
Is replacing the Heat Exchanger only an option?

Since the unit is over 10 years old, you are probably looking at a problem having the heat exchanger available. It will be roughly half to 2/3 the cost of the a replacement system, if it does happen to be available.
