I want my two stage cooling to always operate like a one stage-both stages either on or off together. Can I do this by crossing the Y2 wire to the Y1 terminal with the Y1 wire in Y1 as well?

Thanks

My house is an older 4 story brownstone with an 8 ton system and only one zone. Without the full 8 tons it struggles to get to the set temperature so the system runs longer than it would with both stages running all of the time.

Have you had it serviced? Maybe it is low on freon etc etc. Running longer gives you better de-humidification.

The current 8 ton SCAV unit is only one year old and is serviced annually. I have confirmed that the system steps down from 2 stages to 1 stage when it gets to 1 degree above the set temperature. When both stages are on it is pumping out very cool air so it seems to me that it is working very well. The real problem is that the thermostat does not allow me to program it differently which is why I want to wire it so that both stages are always on. I have no problem with the current dual staging as the system turns on because I have programmed it to turn the second stage on after 10 minutes. I can call my service company to wire it differently but if all I have to do is jump the Y2 to the Y1 then I can do it without paying them.

My prior unit was an older 8 ton single stage SCAV which finally needed to be replaced. The older unit did cool the house down more quickly before it died because it was always pumping out 8 tons.

Does simply jumping the Y2 to Y1 work or should I call my servicer?

Thanks

DIY and you may void any warranties. If it has a circuit board it may not like that setup either. I would get more info from the manufacturer and the installer.
