"Heating/AC PTAC unit question" , posted Tue 12 Aug 11:22user profileedit/delete messagepost reply

Hi,

I currently have a PTAC unit (model Suburban Manufacturing DL3-1220) installed, a direct natural gas vent heater and an A/C, but I do not know how to operate the build in thermostat in the unit. My question is as follows:
1. According to the manual and the service agent to shut off the A/C and Heating component, you need to hit the standby mode, but what if I want to shut off the functions for an extended period of time? If I unplugged the electricity from the unit, and re-plugged into the electric socket, the thermostat component of the AC and Heating system would not function until the service agent unscrews and opens up the thermostat compartment (inside) and hit the two switches to on. Then the thermostat would operate. Is this normal? The contractor who installed this unit does not seem to understand how to control the thermostat that well. I just want to know does this mean that I cannot unplug the unit from the socket? What is the normal routine to shut off this unit if I am not going to use it for extended period of time?
Below is the link to the unit information, including the manual for operation.

2. On the plug there is a reset and test button, what are these functions used for?
3. If this unit is not working properly, I was wondering if there is anyone who knows which alternatives HVAC units that could replace this unit?

Thank you in advance for the help.
