I'm looking to replace my 15 yr old cast iron, baseboard hot water oil furnace with a duel fuel wood gassification boiler. I've found a unit I like and have worked out prices with the importer. The problem is I can't find anyone who will install it for me, I'm having trouble even getting a return phone call, even from the ones suggested by the importer. I have a walk-out basement with good access to the furnace, I know its heavy but there must be a way. On another note, if I can't get the replacement done this year, do you think it would be worth while to put in a tankless water heater, currently there is a hot water coil in the furnace. I have propane as a fuel source. Thanks for you suggestions.Mike

The problem that you are having is probably the fact that you are going to purchase the equipment on your own. there are some really good hybrid systems out there. Contact a local rep as the Mfg. has suggested and purchase the equipment through them.

Importer?? Where is it coming from? Where I live furnaces/boilers have to be CGA and UL approved and AGA where you are. If not they have to be specially approved/inspected etc and maybe most installers cannot be bothered with all the hassle to do so. Also, where will you get parts from. They probably don't want to get involved with that either. May be better to buy a local product made in USA. Weil McLain and AO Smith are both good products. Just my opinion though. If you have some land you may want to look into a geothermal system rather than some exotic wood hybrid unit.
