I want to replace two CK36-1C Units that are innefficient and keep burning up the capacitors with more effecient (14 SEER) Goodman or other units. Can anyone tell me if the Goodman GSC140361A is a suitable replacement?

Recommendations will be gratefully received! :) Thanks.

GSC 14(SEER)036(3 ton) same size as the originals. Freon lines and evaporator coil need replacing also. Buy an extended warranty if available.

Thank you very much for a quick response. Since the freon lines and evaporator coil need replacing too does this mean the entire air handler? Now I am wondering if a heat pump system would be a good idea.

Here are our specific conditions. We are in the San Joaquin Valley of CA with summer temps up to 110+, low humidity (15-25%) and winters with average 50 degree temps and lows to 10 degrees (not frequent or prolonged).

Also, we have a solar PV system that now supplies about 85-90% of our electricity. Another reason for going to High efficiency HVAC is to have our PV system supply closer to 100% of our electric power. Our heating unit is currently propane gas fired and propane is getting pretty expensive too! Ideas?

I live in the Great White North where it goes to -40 deg F so heat pumps are not used. Sounds like a good idea for you and I am sure some of our other techs especially our guy in Houston can give you some good advice. Hang in there.
