I have a Carrier 58PAV furnace and my blower makes a loud rattling noise when its on. An A/C tech came out an told me that it was unbalanced and the best thing would be to run it until it dies and replace it.
Not that I believe it's good advice but I don't see it dying anytime soon and it is really loud.
The blower shaft doesn't wobble when the blower is on but the blower does vibrate intensely. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

If it is out of balance, you need to replace it now, before it takes the blower bearings out and then have to repalce that also.

The motor mounts may be broken or the squirrel cage is coming apart. Pull the blower out and see if there is any paper/sock or other debris which may have got sucked in and cause it to be off balance. Give it a good spin to see if it is off balance and check the hub/fins for looseness. That tech is a idiot, excess vibration will kill the circuit board.
