I have a Tempstar Model # CA5524VKD3, MFG # NCA5524VKD3 condensing unit matched with a evaporator Model # EPD24B15A1, MFG # NEPD24B15A1. They are coupled with a Tempstar funrnace. The outside compressor is shot (windings open).
Can anyone tell me the specifics on these units and can I replace them as a set with another manufacturers units?
Thanks for the help JG

That Tempstar is 2.0 ton . Well you can put in a new unit but, you need to understand 13.0 S.E.E.R. rating is now min. standard.
So what your doing is putting a 13.0 -2.0 ton condenser on a 10.0 rated coil and your cooling system will NOT be match and could have problems in the future. Consider changing coil also, to insure a proper matched system, you can keep the furnace. Tempstar-Heil Carrier-Bryant Goodman-Amana American Standard-Trane Rheem-Ruud Just a few brands to choose from, but brand doesn't always mean you get a good system, if it is not installed properly , you can have issues down the road on cooling.

Aircooled - Thanks for the information. I will replace whatever needs to be replaced. From reading some other information I could tell that the coil and outdoor unit should be replaced as a set and I will do that, I don't want to have other issues later. Thank you for the information!
Acefurnacefxr - As far as why it went bad - who knows. Refrigerant is at proper levels, coil is cleaned twice a year / every year, condensing fan is workinng correctly, when it was working properly before it was operating as it should. I had it off for about a month and when I went to start it back up the fan would run in the outside unit but not the compressor.
To be honest with you I fully understand the refrigeration circuit. I am a Mechanical Engineer with my first degree (Associates) being in refrigeration / AC. I worked at Copeland Corporation in Sidney Ohio for three years, etc., etc. I know that compressors go bad, sometimes not because of a faulty refrigeration componenet - it used to be my job to destroy them in the lab. I tried the RHVAC service thing it just wasn't for me.
I cannot see a reason why it would go bad - the unit was here long before I lived in the house and I am sure that it was not taken care of properly. I have been dilegent since moving in but the damage could have already been done.
I dont have access to the model number breakdowns so I figured I could get the information here from the well informed people on the forum. Thanks again for the information!!
