I have an older Trane xl 1200 with burned out compressor. Can I retrofit with a newer style copeland scroll of the same btu and power ratings, with just changing from rotolock to sweat fittings. Or are there other issues I will encounter. Looks like I'll also need to change style of crankcase heater, but I don't see that as an issue. I plan on doing the hardware replacement myself, and hiring out the evacuating, purging, and charging of the system. Thanks.

Roger

Your going to install a copeland scroll in a Trane where a rotor-lock was. Piping is going to be a issue and the condenser was NOT designed for that compressor , but, if it your money and time GO FOR IT.. Send us pictures after you get it running.

You can do what you want to do, but why put the money and trouble into an old system, with lower efficiency than you would get with a new system? You will still have many problems to overcome with the conversion, but, if you want to spend the money, it can be done.
