gas

expansion tank on top of boiler also lined into a standard hot water heater

The pressure valve on the hot water heater spit hot water all over the basement so I turned it on cold to relieve the pressure. I have since turned it back on hot. Now there is no hot water. I am not great at boilers. heelp

Need more info. What is the psig of the system? What is the rating for the pressure relief valve? Is the expansion tank a bladder type?

Sounds like either a too high pressure problem or a pressure relief valve problem. Are the pressure releif at the boiler and the hwh the same rating? Is the makeup water ran through a pressure regulator.

Boiler systems are dangerous if the pressure is not right. If you do not know how it works you should learn their principle operation before you touch them. If the pressure relief valves are not opening as they should it could be a very dangerous situation.

I'm confused. Are you having a problem with your boiler or your hot water heater? What type of WH is this(make, model, gas, oil, indirect, electric?
