My Carrier 58PAV has had intermittent code 31 problems in the past but now is continuous. The pressure switch is connected to the inducer blower by a hose. When I look into the inducer through the small tube that the hose attaches to the tube appears plugged. Is this the normal appearance or is there supposed to be some sort of filter there? The pressure switch is open but I can close it by gentle suction on the hose. I think the inducer tube is plugged. Can I safely just poke a nail or toothpick into the tube to clear the blockage?

you cxn clear the blockage any way that works, but be careful not to blow or suck on the pressure switch/theres a diaphram in there that can collapse under high pressure.the hoses can be detached and cleaned and the fitting on the inducer motor cleaned with wire and a vacuum cleaner.

Thanks! That did the trick. I was just worried that I was going to break some unknown part at the end of the fitting.

I cleaned the plug out of the inducer fitting and it works now. The plug was hard and brittle and preventing the pressure switch from closing. I suspect that my intermittent code 31 problems in the past was condensation. That finally calcified over the summer and plugged the fitting completely.
