I have a Lennox Merit series furnace. My blower will not come on in auto or on. When I do switch the blower to the on postition, I can hear a humming noise from within the furnace. Its like its trying to run but cant. I have been told it could be the capacitor? Reading others here, my unique twist is the humming of the motor... I will also try to clean out the area of dust and see if the fan is stuck on anything... Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if the motor spins freely with no power, put in a new capacitor.$20.00 is a cheap test.the capacitor is usually attached to the blower housing, two wires going to ir,about the size of a can of tomato paste.turn off the power and short out the two posts in case of static charge.

Thanks for the help, I did that and same problem. I spun the fan and it spun freely. After hooking up with a motor guy we found the bearings were worn to the point that it would not allow the motor to run from the low speed. I could spin the fan with my hand and then hold the door switch and it would get up to speed. Fix is a new motor, cant fix these bearings I guess... Installed new motor and everythings "cool" again.
