Hi, I need to replace a heat pump. Can anyone give me a sense of a reasonable cost range I can expect for new indoor/outdoor unit/installation? Also any brands/types recommended for 4 bedroom colonial home?

Thanks!

LT

Thanks, good advice. Are there any companies in particular that I should target for quotes? We are in VA.

Prices vary between geographical region, state to state, town to town, contractor to contractor. Tonage of equipment, how may sq ft of living space, and condition of the house, how well insullated is it. SEER rating, heat pump or furnance. Are you repolacing the duct or refrigerant lineset. Brand of equipmet, there is deffinatly a differance in price. As far as reliability of brands, they are all basically the same. Warrenties are different. Get several written qoutes from contractors from walking down the property. And remember you get what you pay for, sometimes cheapest ends up costing you the most.

I am in TN I have no idea. Contact the BBB, find a HVAC contractor for warranties/guarentees their work, and are established in your community. Don't hire the contractor who has one tech who sits in the truck, while a bunch of kids or Mexicans do all the work. It's bit of dice roll, so ask around.
