I currently have an old Honeywell thermostat, placed there by the original contractor of the house some 20 years ago. It is starting to get tempramental so I chose to replace it with a new Hunter programable model. The problem is the wiring isn't labeled and I don't wish to go any further and risk damage to either the unit or the thermostat. Can anyone help?
If you don't have time to do it right when will you have time to do it over?

That's the problem, Hunter includes cute little labels so you don't make mistakes on the wiring, but the old unit isn't labeled. So I have no idea on which wire to place the labels. I'm told you can't trust the color coding.

Almost all the Honeywells I have seen have wire labels. I use a magnifying glass if necessary (gettin old). If not post a pic of it on photobucket or imageshack and put the links here and we may be able to recognize it/help. Copy and paste the IMG code here. http://imageshack.us/

Thanks Yuri, I took a pic, posted it to the link you provided, but now I don't know how to put it here.

Open 2 browsers IE Explorer or Firefox. Visit here with one and the other at imageshack. Right click on the pic/link and it should provide an IMG http: address or info. Copy it and then paste it here.

Hope that works. I did finally see what you meant by wire labels for for the life of me I can't see that there is anything printed or engraved on them. Even using a magnifying glass. Also that picture is sideways, forgot to adjust it before I sent. The red and yellow wires shold be on the left, and the black on the bottom. Melody

Looks like a standard heat/cool tstat to me. If you look carefully at the front of it you can see a G and W should be a R and Y also. Most standard systems have R,W,Y,G. Check and see which wire attaches to those points/letters and the wire at the back and go from there. I hugely dislike Hunter, Lux and other budget tstats. Been in the biz 30 yrs and only use high quality Honeywell Vision or Focus Pro type. Lots of problems with the cheap ones. You get what you pay for.
