I have a conventional electric heat/central AC system. The old weathertron thermostat was acting wacky so I bought a Hunter 44860 digital programmable unit. I set it for conventional electric heat mode and manual operation.

The old thermostat had the following connections:

Orange wire = O
Green = G
Yellow = Y
Black = T
White = W
Red = R
Brown = X2
Blue = B

I have been reading here about what goes where with this thermostat and I see a bunch of different answers. The wiring diagram from hunter that I see posted a lot here says:

Orange wire = Not sure but looks like RH
Green = G
Yellow = Y1
Black = W2
White = W1
Red = R/Rc
Brown = Y2
Blue = C

But I see other posts that say this:

Rh& Rc = red
C = blue
Y1 = yellow
W2 = white
E = black
O = orange
G = green
Tape off brown. Your new stat will not use the obsolete thermister for heating control since it uses a processor.

Do not use the new B terminal. Tranes B is common. Hunter's C is common.

Or I see this:

O = orange
G = green
Y1 = yellow
E = black
W2 = white
Rc & R = red
C = would be blue if it was connected
Tape off the brown wire.

Which one of these is correct?

Thanks

Bob

O = orange
G = green
Y1 = yellow
Aux = white
Rc & Rh = red
E = brown
C = blue
Tape off black. Your new stat does not use an outdoor thermister.

Configure for multi stage heatpump as described on pages 28 and 29.

I'd post pictures, but I have no power. I'm at Wendys to post with my ipaq.

Hunker Down.

Ok I did that. It gives me A/C but heat is just fan (no warm air) but only in conventional mode.

Your list says white goes in Aux. I don't have a slot that is named aux but the instructions said W2 was for aux heat so I put it there. Is that correct?

Also, I have a conventional HVAC system, not a heatpump. I configured the system as you described (multi stage heatpump) but it does not work at all that way so I put it back to conventional so I could have A/C.

Any idea what I have wrong?

Hope all is well down there. I bet you are gonna be busy when things get back to normal.

Thanks for the help. Look forward to your response.

Bob

The Weathertron stats are from their heatpump series. The O terminal is used to energize the reversing valve in heatpumps for cool mode.

That stat will energize Y (compressor) on demand for heat and cool. I'm very confident that you have a heatpump.

Most digital stats will lockout the system for 5 minutes after power is restored. Did you wait that long?

I've got power now but no cable or internet.

The shop still doesn't have power. Picked up a generator today for the shop and got the phones working. Hope to work tomorrow.

How would I tell if it is a heatpump? I live in an apartment building and the unit is in a closet. The ductwork runs above the ceiling and the only thing that comes in from the box outside is a 1/2" copper pipe, a 1/4" copper pipe, and the wire that goes to the tstat. The box outside is small square unit with what looks like a compressor in the middle under the fan. I can't get to the outside box to get a model number but the indoor unit is a trane bwv718a100l2.

Does that tell you anything?

Thanks for helping me. I appreciate your time. Hope all is well at home.

Does the outdoor unit run with heat demand?
