How long should a cycle be for this unit. I have timed the cycle to be as follows: unit fires up 2 minutes later blower kicks on and runs for 7 minutes. unit shuts down for 9 minutes then fires up again for new cycle. I am heating 4888 sq. ft. Is this normal cycling or is this a short cycle? the system seems to shut off before heat reaches 2nd floor. I have a Honeywell round digital thermostat. this is a brand new furnace.

Is your thermostat located next to a door, lamp, computer, window, outside wall, etc. If no false sources of heat, check limits or call out the installer.

tstat is on interior wall in common hall on 1st floor (only 1 zone) not near any exterior door, lamp, window or heat source. I turned the tstat up 1 degree and it cycles fine (longer) but in order to maintain consistant temp, the cycles are way shorter. is it possible the tstat is too sensitive?

Sounds like it may be tripping the limit. Start by making sure your filter is clean. Dirty evaporator coil or cracked heat exchangers are other causes. Also make sure all your returns and registers are open.
If in doubt call a pro !

had it cleaned and seasonal service 1 week ago, new filter, all registers are fully open. return is centrally located in common hall on 1st floor. no return in each room.

Check the owners manual for the tstat. Most of them have a cycles per hour adjustment. Set it for oil or hot water heating if you want longer cycles. The default is usually high efficiency gas unit.
