Be sure that the thermostat you have is for electric heat and NOT gas.

I've wired the thermostat according to the directions. The cooling function is working properly, compressor comes on and fan operates auto mode. When turning thermostat to heat side, heat strip will come on but fan will not operate, you can turn fan into the on mode and will work on heat side. Any more suggestions, is it possible the thermostat is defective? It's only been installed for a couple of years. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some stats can be configured for electric heat. Post the make and model of your stat.
