Hi, we know nothing about HVAC but have a big problem and are looking for any advice... my friend just got home from the hospital with her new baby and her Carrier furnace programmable display has gone dead and the furnace is blowing cold air. it showed the temperature this morning and then died, no display whatsoever. It does not have a battery and is wired into the wall. It is getting really cold here and we need to get this fixed quick before it gets too cold for the baby! I have not been able to find anything other than to check for a blown fuse and trip the breaker, which we already tried.

Please help!

Thanks a lot,
Kristen in Colorado

Have the mother get a hotel room till she can have the heat repaired by a professional.

Okay, it is a Carrier and the only thing that might be a model # she can find is "58rav070-12". She says it is flashing an error code that says a limit switch is open and that the furnace needs to be manually reset, but she is not sure how to do it. I guess the instruction manual she has for the unit is not the correct one because nothing is where it says it should be.

If it gets too cold she has places to stay but that is hard with a newborn! Worse case scenario she will have someone come and fix it but she is extrememly broke right now and a repair will be a hardship for her.

Thanks for any advice!

tun off the breaker, inspect all the electrical parts or anything where any wire would be attached to it. then look for something to press. this is a common reset procedure. press something and if it clicks, then turn the unit on.

good luck and i hope you find it.

Life is short use it wisely GOD Bless !

In the compartment where the fan is there should be a red reset button attached to a control on the fan. Press it. It should not pop unless the fan fails or the filters are dirty. The main limit may be shot if the unit has been cycling on it and then you need a pro to change it etc.

Good Luck
