The 4-year old Trane 2TWB0060 heat pump was stolen, tubing and wiring cut. The lines and air handler (TWE060D150) are still intact looking like new. This was a 10 SEER R22 5 Ton unit. Is there any way to salvage the air handler and just replace the heat pump (change a-coil if needed perhaps) or am I stuck with replacing the entire system? Is it possible to get a replacement heat pump that will work with the existing air handler? Thanks for the help.

sorry to inform you but instaling a 13seer heat pump to a 10seer id coil wont work. Will flood the evaporator. sometimes installing a txv at the evap can get you buy but its a patch job then. Its best to start over the 13 seer coil for the air handler will be to large. contact your home insurance provider and see what they will cover. Once you install the new system Id put a fence around with wire running around it hooked to a 12volt dc car battery so when the crackhead tries to steal it again you can light him up good. Shouldnt kill the thugs but will make them think twice. If that doenst work install razor wire around the fence.
