I have an old tappan gas fired forced hot air furnace. I am able to run my a/c and the fan. But when i call for heat it wont turn on. The pilot is lit ( not electronic pilot ). I had the transformer checked and it is fine. Unsure what else could be the issue. Any advice is more than appreciated

First verify that the thermostat is calling for heat. If you have 24v between W & C or 0v between R & W then you have an open safety limit or bad gas valve. Oterwise you have a bad thermostat or control wiring. FYI, W,R,C terminals are located at furnace.

Hope this helps.

I switched out the thermostat and nothing happened and I also bypassed the thermostat.... still nothing.

There are 2 terminals on top of the gas valve, are those the ones to check? In the morning I will check the voltage (low).

This seems like it should be something relatively simple... but it is VERY frustrating as I need it to be heating.
