We have a Rheem forced air gas furnace. Model plate says RCDA-07EC-ER, but I can not find any reference for it online or at Rheems website. A few days back, went to get it ready for the upcoming winter. After cleaning out a little dust, I turned it on. It would not turn on. I did notice at that time there was a constant hum in the transformer. After a little investigation with my volt meter, I determined the safety switch for the front panel cover was defective. Making the furnace think the cover was off when it was on. I bypassed the switch with a fuse until I could get new switch. The furnace started working, but even when it is not running there is this constant hum coming out of the transformer. Well now the furnace does not kick on at all, and when I turn the power on, all I get is this hum from the transformer. I do see directly below the transformer a relay. I pulled the relay out, turned the power on and still get the hum. Any suggestions? Do you need more info, please let me know. Thanks

A transformer hum is usual. See if you can find the wiring schematic glued to one of the furnace doors. Usually the blower door safety will cut power to everything, including the transformer. I would thing the same for the panel you took off but I guess not. Is the only indication of the furnace working the hum? Does it try and light? Try setting the Fan to ON at the thermostat... does the main fan start to run (allow 30 seconds)? Was there any construction work done on your house or did you have any bad lightning storms this summer? Check the control board for a small fuse. See if that's good (if present).

Solved and Thank you Freon. I did not think to look for a fuse on the board. Very small fuse and is blown. Shorted across and it kicked on. Going now to get new fuse. Yes, we had storm that blew out a few things. I should have thought about that and included it in my original post. Well, this takes a load off my mind, we're going down into the 30's over the next few nights. Have door safety switch on it's way UPS and local store says they have fuse.
Thanks again, you guys rock.
