I have a Goodman 80% efficiency Natural Gas Furnace (2 ton) 45,000 BTU, with matching A/C coil and condensor. It is only a couple of years old and I am moving, and I want to take it with me. Where I am moving natural gas is not available and I DO NOT want to convert to LP. My decision is a little radical. I have designed a solar/wood burning water system that incorporates the air handler and A/C coil but my problem lies in my back-up system/initial system. I want to replace the guts of the burner assembly with a 8kW heater coil and I want to know if the control board in the unit will be compatible. Everything I have read on says that the heater coils are universal in most of thier air handlers and I was wondering if anyone has tried to attempt this?

Short answer is no, the circuit board on a GAS furnace is not designed to power coils

Thank you for the information though can you help me a little more on direction on this website, where exactly am I suppose to be going?

I know my scenario sounds very screwy but I have had 2 engineers go over what I was doing and they signed off on it, but when it came to specifics of the equipment they fell short. So let me ask this, can I just purchase a new board? If I rip the gas guts out and put a coil in, the blower will still work the same, and the A/C is independent, then a board that matches the coil should solve my problems, correct?

I am just trying to be creative with the parts I have and trying to use a little less energy.

You can install an 8KW Warren duct heater, with a pressure switch, on the supply side of your furnace. Configure your stat for electric heat to energize G on demand for W.

Do not gut your furnace.
