I recently rented a house from the 40's. Only heater is a wall unit. I went to light the pilot and find that there is no off/pilot/on knob. The valve connected to the pilot/thermocouple(PG - 9A) is an ITT B60 which I understand to be a "pilot operated diaphragm valve."
My question is: how do I light this?

Messing with gas appliances that you are not familar with can be hazardous to your health. Gas can make big booms. Especially in some of the older equiptment because they don't normally have as many safeties as the newer things. If it were me renting a place with no heat, I'd be calling the landlord to get it lit for you.
If in doubt call a pro !
