While checking a two stage ruud furnace i noticed that the heat has only one control wire for heat and it is connected to W2. There is no wire connected to W1 on the control board. The t/stat is single stage. On a call for heat it starts and runs in 1st stage. Will it ever go into 2nd stage wired like this?

you need a 2 stage stat and connect up to w1. if not it's working on the timer from the board.
