My AC stopped blowing cold air yesterday. A call to a service company told me it is probably a leak and would cost about $1000 to fix.

Does this sound reasonable in terms of the problem and the cost?

Pay for a service call and have a reputible co. actually Diagnose the problem.It could be a simple fix.

So you called a service company, and they told you that without even coming to look at it? It sounds to me like; a) the company doesn't really want your business, and b) if they do come to look at it they will gouge you for at least $1000 regardless of what the problem is! Call someone else!

It's only a shock if your not expecting it!
