my furnace will put good heat out when it first kicks on. after that the flame goes out and runs twice as long with no flame cooling the house back off.it will shut off then 5 minutes later kicks back on and repeats that cycle.any help is greatly appreciated

If the thermostat gets up to temp and cycles the burners off, the fan will continue to run until the fan control thermostat opens. This is to cool the heat exchanger down. There may be a problem with the fan control. It could also be that the thermostat is being influenced by warm air from a nearby supply air vent. Short-cycling like that is also a problem caused by the furnace being over sized for the space.
It's only a shock if your not expecting it!

the thermostat doesnt get up to temp.i have already replaced the fan control tstat i think. doesnt it just touch the heat exchanger with one wire on both ends. and there are no vents near the thermostat.i appreciate you taking your time for me!!!
