I am having a problem with my Carrier 58PAV that has me stumped.
When it gets a call for heat the inducer motor kicks on, but then the LED flashes a code 31. The ignitor never glows, nor does the blower motor kick on. When I run a component test everything works fine.
I have already replaced the pressure switch and the control board to no avail.
The vent pipe is clear, I have even removed it completely (temporarily!) from the top of the furnace and still I get the 31 error code.
Inducer motor spins freely and blows hard... I am completely stumped.
Any suggestions?

Check the rubber hose between the pressure switch and your furnace for any obstructions (like water), or holes.
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Thanks for the fast reply!
The hose is clear and has no holes. And I can also hear the switch closing just after the inducer kicks on, and I can hear it open when I turn it off.

Do you have a meter? Something is opening the cicuit between PL1 terminals 3 and 4 (orange/yellow circuit).

Shut off power to furnace. CAREFULLY remove the wiring harness (molex) connectors one at a time to the board. With a magnifying glass check the wires/pin connectors on the molex plug. One of them may be pushed back and not mating with the board causing an open circuit in the wirng from the pressure switch.

Thanks Yuri and Houston. The orange wire from the pressure switch (NO terminal) to the #3 pin on the harness goes through this device first:
I'm not sure what this is or what it does, but obviously something wrong there would break the circuit. Is it safe to jump this device?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my, how embarrassing!
Looking at my post above and the pic it suddenly dawned on me that that looks like a circuit breaker. I pushed it and it clicked, turned on the furnace and everything is working fine now.
Of course, I bought $300 in parts I didn't need but everyone seems to think those old boards from the 58PAV were crap anyway so I guess it's just as well I have the new one going into winter.

That is a limit or rollout switch which normally shouldn't trip. May have been caused by your chimney issue. That board probably would have failed soon anyway. Glad you got it going.

Thank you very much, we had the same problem as Jerry and after replacing the board we found your post and pushed down the circuit breaker button between the two orange wires and we have much needed heat. We are so happy this site exists....
