I just received one estimated on my air conditioner. But the coil like material has eroded due to dog urinating on it. I was told the whole air conditioner needs to be replaced. But the compressor works fine. It still blows cold air. Is this correct or should I get another technician to look at it.
Thank you

Doggy rot, is the term we use. As for replacement of unit it would depend on how much of the condenser coils have been eroded away from the (doggy rot).If more than 2 rows and 4" then yes this will effect the ability of heat transfer of refrigerant in the condensing stage of your unit.

Hose off the coil ASAP. How much of the coil has been corroded... 10% or 50%? As long as the copper tubing is intact, your system will function fine, albeit a little less efficiently. Those fins (usually aluminum) on the copper tube are to help transfer heat from the compressed refrigerant. With a loss of some of the fins, you will lose some of the cooling ability of the condenser. If it still cools and you have not noticed any major increase in your electric usage (KWH, not $) then you might want to wait on replacing it until you're ready.
