I went home this weekend and the tempature dropped to the mid 40's. I turned on the heat and the heat pump only blew out cold air. It was as if I only turned the fan setting was on. I turned the thermostat up to 90 and turned the emergency heat on and it still did not blow out any heat. I recently replaced the thermostat, but I hooked it up exactly as it showed in the manual and the A/C works fine with the thermostat. The old thermostat had a heat, aux heat and emergency heat. The new thermostat only has heat and emergency heat. Did I install the wrong thermostat? Can anyone help me figure this out?

Read your manual. It may have to be programmed. Most of them do.

A heat pump requires a heat pump thermostat.

The thermostat that I bought said it was for 2 stage heat pumps. Are there any other resons why it would not work.

There is a jumper wire, but I am not sure to what letters though. I live out of town during the week and I do not have the manual with me. When I removed the old thermostat I tagged the wires that were connected it and hooked them up according to the directions in the manual. I even rechecked this weekend. I read the manual and I do not see anything about having to program the thermostat. The cold air is coming out of the register. It isn't necessarily cold air; it is just outside temperature air. It is like the fan is running, but no heat is coming out.
