i had a new ducane heat pump installed during the summer. worked great, heater was working great. suddenly this morning is sounded exactly like a diesel truck. i turned it off for now, and ideas? freon leak? thanks,

Im sorry but you bought a DUCANE. Its the yugo of air-conditioning. Its Fails in some what extreme weather. I hope you have a homewaranty or at least a waranty on the unit. But the charge could be wrong or you may need a hard start. GOOD LUCK

is the inside unit or outside unit that sounds bad, if it is inside, could be a loose blower wheel, something in the blower wheel to throw it out of balance, or loose mounting brackets. If outside, check to see it ice is built up on fan blade, throwing it out of balance.

its the outside unit. it hasn't got cold enough here in delaware to freeze. checked the bolts holding the fan motor to the top grill. its odd because it was quiet all night, turning on and off. then when it kicked on again, around 7am, I thought a mack truck starting up. killed the circuit breaker, tried again. still very loud.
