I have an older heater and am having some trouble with it. Here are the details:

1. Forced air unit that is fairly old.
2. I have replaced the filters this year and the ignitor was replaced last year when I bought the home.
3. It had a "normal" thermostat and I was having the prescribed problem below and I put a new programmable thermostat on it and am having the same problem.
4. Problem: When the temperature drops below the thermostat range the heater BDP model # 396gaw000075, I here the ignitor start clicking, a smaller pilot light starts to burn and the ignitor continues clicking for several more seconds, then stops, eventually the bigger burner lights. After the burner warms for a few minutes it stops burning, then the blower motor turns on for a few min. After the blower motor stops before the house is warm the burner kicks right back on and we continue this cycle round and round. Eventually sometimes the heater starts blowing cold air and wont stop until I hit a reset button. Whats wrong with my heater?

Look and see if there is a small (3"x5") aluminum box on the front of the furnace above where the main burners are located. It may say Honeywell on it. If not, stop reading. If there is, you should be able to remove the cover by squeezing it on the sides and pulling toward you. Inside you will see a dial. Call for heat again and watch that dial. It should begin to rotate once the main burner lights. There are 3 pointers. Tell us how that dial moves as different events happen once you call for heat.
