HELP!! Old furnace (18 yrs). Works fine when starting up with 2-3 degrees to warm home. When trying to maintain the temperature, thermostat clicks on, blower starts, flame ignites and immediately shuts off...This process repeats (minus the click and with a variety of blower and fan processes) until there is eventually enough of a temp difference that it turns itself on correctly and warms the home. I've had two HVAC people look at this - igniter cleaned, replace, thermostat replaced with digital one last year - no obvious problems...Any ideas? Could a programmable thermostat help?? Is there away to set a wider range before it tries to turn back on? Thanks!

could be....
dirty flame sensor
bad ground
faulty circuit board
bad gas valve
bad limit

ask your neighbors who they recommend to call for service.
after two guys looking at...that's all they were doing was looking not diagnosing.
