if the blower motor is drawing max amps, YES if you have a bad run capacitor it can cause the motor to overheat. if there is play in the blower shaft or bearing drag it will overheat.
bad cutoff bad, never happened with me. thermal limit inside motor protects it from burning up and boiling the oil out. check the first two things before changing the motor due to a bad thermal overload switch.

First and foremost what is the ^T (Delta T) if the furnace has to high of a ^T what then needs to be determined if their is sufficent air supply such as a cfm test BTU Output/1.08 X ^T. Now as far as the blower, are the blades clean in the wheel or are they full of S!@$. Next is the air filter clean? Thirdly was the high limit ohmed out to see if it was bad? Was the flame sensor u/a checked after it was cleaned to see if their was still an issue? Some blowers have a reverse flow switch mounted into the blower housing, if it trips its usually due to excessive heat through time or plugged air filters. Hope this helps, my moddo gather the data and facts first then replace what neeeds to be replaced.
