My Trane XE80 recently started cutting off and flashing the Open High Limit Device error code. A tech came by and found no problems and recommended we change the filter and open all the vents. I was a little skeptical, as the filter was not very old (less than two months) and there were only a couple vents closed. Sure enough, several days later, the problem started back up. By the way, by shutting the unit off for ~30 seconds and turning it back on, I can get it running again, generally for a few hours or even a day.
I've called the repair company again already (it's cold in Anchorage right now) but just thought I'd post here and see if anybody had ideas on what the most likely problem is.
Thanks

Check blower amperage it could be showing a failure, a restricted a-coil (air cond) coil. In the past those high limits will only reset so many times till they finally break by design. Anything restricting airflow is a potential problem for you.

Thanks. When the second tech came out, he figured out in about 30 seconds that the control board was burnt up. He said that it was probably caused by the limit device going on and off repeatedly. Still not sure what caused that, but the furnace is working fine now.
