Replacing an american standard nonprogrammable digital (because the up button doesn't work) thermostat with a honeywell non-prog digital (RTH3100C)

Shut off 1 of the 2 breakers (1st mistake I think) to the air handler. House has 2 air handlers with breakers in different places. But the breaker I shut off cut power to the thermostat so I think I'm ok. And I didnt get shocked when I disconnected the wires.

Old thermostat has: G B R Y W X2 O (has F but no wire) all wire colors match initials (X2 is black) One wire not used brown i think.

New thermostat has: E Aux Y G O L R B C

Initially I hooked up:

E = X2
Aux = White
y=y
g=g
o=o
r=r
b=b

nothing on L or C. Turn breaker on no dice. Finally noticed in the manual that "If old thermostat had both O an B wires attach B wire to C terminal" So, I tried that. No dice.

Get pissed off...hook up old thermostat. Now IT doesnt get power at all. (no battery back up on old)

Now I know there are 2 breakers at the fuse box, neither was tripped I toggled both. Also, 2 switches on heat pump (look like breakers), neither was tripped I toggled both. And the pull out jumper in box by fan outside pulled out and put back.

I have an american standard electric only heat pump. Dont know if there is some kind of low voltage fuse/reset switch inside that I may have blown/tripped.

No clue where to go next...and help will be appreciated.

yes im an idiot...but I try.
