I have a 2 yr. old Trane heat pump model# xe1200. The problem I have is that when I set and "hold" temp. on thermostat, the fan blowing the inside vents turns on, however, nothing seems to turn on outside on the unit (fan.etc.?) I did notice today that out at the heat pump I could smell something like the element heating. The problem seems to be intermittent-maybe affected by ambient temp.?? Any advice would help-or wiring diagram

Did you check power to the outdoor unit?
