My father is quite old and money is always a problem, but regarding his AC unit everything looks and checks out OK, but air flow is severely reduced thru the FAU and I know his evap coil has got to be blocked. Due to the design of the sheet metal enclosing the coil, there is no way to get to the supply side of evap coil unless I can partially tear down the FAU just beneath the evap coil. Where this unit is installed there is no access on the rear, or left side due to installation into a closet wall corner and the right side is limited with only 7 inches gap before another wall obstruction. A front access that I created only allows access to the A-frame tube exterior on the upper right front side before the refrigeration line entry on the evap coil, no luck to allow any cleaning, as its on the exit side of the coil and only partially available thru the new opening in sheet metal , (wrong side) ...I need to get to the up-flow / supply side of the evap coil. I cannot establish any access to the driven air side / up-flow side of the coil to get to any debris blockages unless a partial tear down of the FAU is done from below, but I don't want to open it up and damage or not be able to replace any older gas flu parts without firsthand knowledge of what's there.
Can someone assist, or point me to someone who could help with the service manual or a exploded parts diagram on the FAU and if possible any info (service docs) for the other items listed below. If anyone can help it is greatly appreciated. _______________________________________________________________________ Furnace / Air Handling Unit (FAU) TRANE Model: XE70 Mod# TUN120A960A1 Ser# 04504124 Mnf Date 1/88 120,000 BTU Evap/Coil TRANE Mod# TXA060P5HPA0 Condensing Unit: TRANE Model: XE800 Mod # Haven't found it, (I'll most likely have to take off sheet metal panels and inspect)
Thanks

If the coil is dirty one option is to remove the heat exchanger and clean it through the opening. However once you remove the heat exchanger you may find cracks or rust holes.

I appreciate the response. The heat exchanger portion of the FAU is my true choice to reach the coils, although the exchanger tubes look aged, slightly rusty as well, but looks reasonably good given the age and use of the unit, (no cracks either).
I tried to remove the front cover of the unit at the exchange tubes and met much resistance, as if sheet metal was glued to the frame... Without tempting fate or a visit from Murphy, I stopped and posted a request on the forum for service manual.
If I know whats there (per say) I will have a better choice to make my move regarding opening this area to clean the coils. Not knowing what is held by what, I could do more damage than is necassary and that wouldnt solve my problem, matter fact I'd probably have to shell out some real $$ to put my dad back in business. A service manual or a exploded parts view is still my true quest.
Again I appreciate any assistance and / or responses..maybe I'll get lucky?
