- Burnt wiring in Air Handler

If you just bought it five months ago, is it still under warranty? I wouldn't think a wire would burn and melt like that because you set it to emergency heat. I would call the people that installed it and have them look at it. Hopefully it's still under warranty and won't cost much or anything. Where I live, one of the HVAC pros are Mr Quik.

Where do you live? Also is your garage attached to a building that is heated or is your garage insulated? I know our garage is insulated and it also has the furnace and water heater in it. Because of those, the garage stays above freezing even when it's way below freezing. I guess a thermostat could do keep it at just above freezing. Pro Thermostats has thermostats and might have what you are looking for.

Is your thermostat a wireless thermostat? If so, then it may be the batteries. Did you also check the furnace to see if the burners are coming on. If it still doesn't work, you could always call a home services professional to check it out.

Is it possible to just switch the cold air and heat near the furnace without having to rip out all the duct work? Replacing all the duct work sounds expensive. We also have a crawl space under part of our house and live in cold Indiana. I don't think our floors are insulated but that sounds like a g...
