Bad heat pump reversing - New system needed?

Hey try taking the top of the condenser off , go buy a new selenoid, unhook fan wires and change unit to heat mode....very carefully tap. Reversing valve but don't bend it.....also replace contactor if this does not help....happened to me at work the other day.
