I did get the R410A, I just didn't get the variable speed fan. The objective is to basically get a new unit in there and hopefully be out of that house within a year or two. I knew I should have asked for the variable speed fan, but I told the guy I wanted a basic unit due to me moving in the near future. It is a smaller place, maybe 1000 sq ft total and not exactly in a "prime" area, so the value of the better unit won't do much for me. So I am basically going to try and sell the place and break even (the real estate bubble burst within two months of me buying the place and as of today I am still down about $13,000). Hopefully the new unit will also increase the value a good bit.
The HVAC guy that came into my house looked at the unit and said he had never in his 20 years in the industry seen that type of unit (I guess because it is almost 40 years old, they were probably phased out before he started). He thought it was neat. To describe the unit, it's round and it has a water heater on the bottom with the air handler on top. Also, since the old unit was straight electric heat and the new unit is a heat pump, I should probably see a nice decrease in my heating bill to. Does that sound correct to *
Again, I appreciate the advice you have given, thanks again!
