Electrical Upgrade

While looking to replace our A/C Unit I thought I would look into a heat pump that could cool in the summer and act in conjunction with our gas heater in the winter.

I had a few contractors come by to give me some quotes. Only one of these contractors said I would have to have an electrician come to upgrade my electrical system before I would be able to have a heat pump installed. Is there any merit to *
