Blower fan and heat strip

I have an electric furnace or air handler. When I turn on the unit to heat. The blower fan comes on but the heat strip goes off and when I turn the unit off the heat strip comes back on.

What are the fan wires connected too? Could be a bad relay. Going from open to close when powers applied and vice versa causing just the fan to kick on instead of both.

If it's a unit you plug Into the wall, I believe the heating element will glow until he fan comes on. Then the heat is removed from the heating coil by the fan so it won't glow anymore. If it's that type of unit it's hard to tell from your description.

Is this a new furnace? Have you done any work to it recently... new thermostat or anything? Has it ever worked correctly?

When you "turn it off" how are you doing that? Are you using the thermostat and turning the heat setting lower so the thermostat is not calling for the furnace to run?
