My HVAC system will not turn on after disconnecting the ther

The system was working fine; 2 weeks ago I disconnected the thermostat to do dry wall repair and painting. I turned the breakers off to the air compressor but forget to turn off the breaker(s) to the furnace.

I reconnected the thermostat (5 color thermostat wiring) and the system won't start up. I took pictures of the old wiring to ensure I would connect it correctly. I bought a new thermostat-- it's still not starting. I can hear the thermostat "clicking" to start the AC but the system in the basement does not turn on (neither does the air condenser outside).

Here's what I -
I flipped all the breakers off and back on.
Used a voltage detector to make sure the power supply is live.
When the thermostat was connected I removed the battery to see if the therm. would stay powered on; it did not. Shouldn't this stay * Isn't the battery for *
I removed the panel on the system-- there's a sticker which lists codes for a "red light." example, a double blinking red light might mean a power failure. I don't see a red light anywhere.

What should I try * If the thermostat is not receiving power, should I try replacing the thermostat *

Chances are you blew the fuse inside the unit.

Thanks for your reply and comment. Blowing a fuse crossed my mind but I guess I didn't explore that option. I don't know where my manual is and I can't find information on this system online. I think I saw a fuse on the board and will try to replace it. I'm not sure if it's a 3amp or 5amp fuse.

Buy more than one, its easy to see if it blew out just by pulling it out of the board.
