Furnace Intake-Pipe Clogging with Snow

Post by Mechanic » Mon Feb 03, 2014 6:15 pm

Hello everyone this is my 1st post I need some basic info

I have a high efficiency furnace. In past few years I have had problems where the intake pipe is clogging-up with snow especially when we have that very fine snow blowing around. I was thinking of cutting the pipe and have the air drawn from inside the basement. Any issues with this. Thanks

Describe exactly how the intake pipe is situated on the outside of the house. Does the pipe leave the house horizontally or vertically? Is there a 90 degree elbow at the end. Unless the building code and the installation instructions say you can use indoor air for combustion, I would try and fix the current setup.
