CSST piping directly connected to heater

I do home inspections in NJ and was always under the assumption that CSST pipe must stop at heater cabinet and hard pipe must be used for interior connection. I called out a heater last week for having CSST directly connected to heater and local code offical told home buyer that there was nothing wrong with connection * Can anyone quote me a code on this *
