HRV questions

Postby Murray Webb » Fri Nov 26, 2010 5:07 pm

I live in Ontario Canada.
Our area has been doing energy audit to make homes more efficient and cuts cost for renovations needed.

My audit was just completed with a good/bad surprise.
My home is 80 years old and when the air pressure test was completed it was rated so tight that it rates the same as a newly constructed home.

We were then told by the tester that we would need to look into getting a HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) to improve the air exchange in the home to prevent CO2 poisoning and to also get a CO2 alarm as well.

We are unsure we should get this HRV unit or to install a bathroom fan as well as one for the stove hood range that was originally going to be a filtered one.

Also we would like to know if the HRV if needed can be installed on our own since our family has been in landlording originally for 34 years to cut the install cost.

Any answers or tips are appreciated.
