If you have a split system, you can measure 6" from the service valves on the outside. It's best to measure as close to the exit of the coil as possible, but this is acceptable. On package units just make sure you are getting the liquid line and not the discharge line for your subcooling reading. Oh, and put the door back up so your pressures read well.
