Apollo Hydro Heat air handler replacement

We have an Apollo - Model 30AHW3B - that needs to be replaced. The coils were replaced in May 2009 but now the a/c unit outside (Amana) needs to be replaced. We have been told that the air handler will need to be completely replaced because of the new regulations effective Jan 2010. Something about a seer rating change and of course the R-22 being phased out.

What are our options for a replacement air handler for the hydro heat system? (Apollo is no longer in business. Did someone buy them out?) It is located in a bathroom (upstairs) that has an opening that will allow access to most of the unit but not all of it.

Is there some way to look at the coils (A-coil) that have had R-22 in them to see what the Seer Rating is? Can the new type freon be used if R-22 has been in it?

more than likely your indoor coil is a 10 seer {orifice metering device}. If you buy an outside 13 seer r-22 condenser you should be okay if tyhat does not work you could always add an expansion valve to your a coil that would solve your problems at a minimum cost and intrusiveness. Yes they still sell R-22 equipment I buy it all the time from Jonestones and Ideal appliance.

Thank you very much. I think that is probably going to be our best bet for now. If we get 10+ years out of it then we can decide if we want to replace both the air handler and the a/c unit at the same time. And the new unit should not need freon (R-22) for the 9 remaining years it's made. At least this way we won't have to tear out the wall in the bathroom right now. Thanks, again!
